KETL Licensing
KETL and its features are released under a combination of LGPL and GPL licensing. This approach not only allows the participation of the Open Source community in the continuing development, it permits (and in some ways encourages) commercial entities to contribute technology to the ongoing development efforts. It also permits groups to develop extensions and features that may contain business rules and proprietary functions without being forced to publish those extensions and features into the Community code base (A restriction that the GPL license has that the LGPL does not).
KETL.org encourages development of extensions and products to enhance functionality of the KETL platform. In some cases, the code base might not easily incorporate into the KETL stack. In others, the developers may not desire to release the code to the Open Source Community. Those extensions and products by definition exist apart from KETL, and communicate with KETL via published API's or through the metadata repository. KETL.org may provide either information and links to those products, or may provide the compiled code in the form of freeware.
KETL code released under GPL
The KETL engine (including the job scheduling features) has been released under the GPL license. Additionally, to leverage features present developed by other Open Source projects, code like the MaxMinds geo-I.P. location services are included as well as the adaptors to communicate with GPL libraries (like the KETL MaxMind adaptors).

KETL code released under LGPL
The KETL core components have been released under the LGPL license. Also released under the LGPL license are features like the PostgreSQL bulk loaders. By placing the core components under LGPL, individuals and companies can privately extend the features, legally. An example might be the addition of a customer segmentation and scoring module that may contain valuable trade secrets.

For ease of install, KETL.org makes available a compiled bundle containing both the LGPL and the GPL components in one file.
KETL Administrative Client
The KETL Administrative Client component and documentation in its entirety is under a shareware licensing agreement through Kinetic Networks. By downloading and installing the KETL Administrative Client, you will be accepting the terms of the shareware license.
